DOCK OPERATOR/Houston Ship Channel

Job Purpose:

Transfers product by preparing, establishing, monitoring, and controlling product transfer processes; maintaining quality, safety, and cleanliness standards; documenting product transfer and processes; maintaining equipment.


 

Duties:

* Prepares for work by reading transfer schedules, and processing specifications; sampling materials; sending samples to laboratory; verifying laboratory acceptance; calculating and measuring materials; checking tanks, vessels, piping, valves, pumps, compressors.

 

* Establishes product transfer process by setting and programming controls; setting values, pumps, compressors and auxiliary equipment.

 

* Maintains quality production by obtaining and testing process samples; conducting inspections; recommending process improvements.

 

* Documents all procedures used during product transfer.

 

* Follows all established regulatory and Safety requirements

 

* Ensures proper operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; reporting malfunctioning units;

 

* Ensure that outages or innages do not exceed DOT certification for the particular vessel being loaded.

 

* Visually inspect the vessel to be involved in the upcoming transfer in order to ensure the vessel is mechanically sound and equipment is not defective before loading or unloading. Also verifying vessel is the correct vessel for transfer by cross checking against orders issued.

 

*Disconnect loading arm/hose and inspect for any leaks prior to releasing the vessel.

 

* Maintains safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations; patrolling unit.

* Maintains continuity among work shifts by communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

 

* Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.

* Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
