Analytical Technologist - R&D

The Dow Chemical Company has an opening for an Analytical Technologist in the Separation Sciences Group of the Plastics R&D Characterization Group, located in Freeport, Texas. This job involves routine and non-routine analytical testing to support the R&D business activities such as product development, intellectual capital, plus manufacturing and customer problem solving. The job also involves significant method development and instrument development/maintenance. Activities include data collection and analysis for R&D customers, scheduling of day to day operations, instrument maintenance, instrument and method development, and documentation of procedures and data reports.   Primary responsibilities include: -Preparing samples, maintaining and running the instrumentation, analyzing and reporting data from analytical and preparative fractionation instrumentation such as GPC and ATREF. -Troubleshooting and improving instrument reliability and performance -Participating in the design, construction, and implementation of new analytical technologies and instrumentation -Serving as analytical contact on cross-functional R&D project teams -Leading and participating in group initiatives to improve the overall performance and delivery of result to our clients. An Associates Degree in a technical curriculum - PLUS -  5 to 7 years of instrumentation/analyzer/laboratory experience, with demonstrated instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting knowledge and skills is preferred.   -Development, operation, and support of custom analytical instrumentation are key job roles. -Previous experience and "hands-on" interest in analytical instrumentation is required. -Good mechanical skills are a must; experience with control software is beneficial. -Prior experience in polymer analysis preferred. -Ability to work flexible hours in support of projects and rush analysis requests. -Good analytical thinking and problem solving skills. -Ability to work effectively in a team environment is critical. -Proficiency in documenting analytical results in addition to documenting equipment configurations, specifications, analytical methods, etc. -Assume responsibility for continuous improvement of analytical skills and personal development.
