Occupational Nurse - Medical Screening Program/Research Study
Zenith Administrators is recruiting for a nurse to serve in a coordinating and quality assurance role in a high visibility, evidence-based, occupational medical screening program. This is a great opportunity for a person interested in clinical coordination, scientific accuracy, national advocacy and improving occupational safety and health.
Zenith Administrators is a large, national third party administrator committed to consistently meeting or exceeding our client expectations. We provide a full range of employee benefits, general administration and computer services to 300+ multi-employer, single employer and public employer client organizations. In business since 1963, we now have 800+ employees located in 22 offices throughout the United States and are continuing to grow.
This position will support Zenith's role as administrator for the Building Trades National Medical Screening Program (known as BTMed--see www.btmed.org), which is funded by the US Department of Energy. The team responsible for the program includes CPWR: The Center for Construction Research and Development, which is the primary client; Duke University and the University of Cincinnati.
Now in its tenth year, the program has screened over 15,000 workers, and currently provides 200 extensive occupational medical screening exams monthly all over the country. Zenith administers 10 field offices and two coordinating centers (Seattle and Oak Ridge, TN). The exams are provided by a network of 200 carefully selected clinical providers under contract with the Program. This Program has resulted in the publication of many scientific papers and changing national policy to improve occupational safety and health. It was the first program to report beryllium sensitization among construction workers and develop theories about the underlying exposures.
The clinical providers must follow detailed protocols developed by the Program. The exams are coordinated by the Zenith team which includes several nurses that work in cooperation with the program's Medical Director to assure that the exams are provided as intended. You will support the Program by determining participant eligibility, working with the medical providers, performing medical chart review, and approving the medical exams.
You will determine medical tests required based on occupational exposures, work with the Zenith staff to schedule medical exams and testing, work with the medical providers to assure that protocols are followed, approve the exams and authorize payment for them, help prepare weekly and quarterly reports on program status and more.
It is critical that candidates are detailed-oriented and can be an effective member of a team. Also, you must be able to maintain communications and effective working relationships with participants and families, community members, physicians, vendors, government agencies and staff, in person, by telephone and email. Experience in the use of computers, the internet and electronic data management systems are also essential qualifications.
Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 2 years occupational health experience, current WA State RN license and 5 years healthcare experience including some clinical experience, even though this is a non-clinical, chart review position. Must also have strong communication, analytical, organizational and presentation skills. Case management experience preferred.
