The System Development Leader leads a Business Unit focused Application Development and Support team. The Manager will supervise a group of deployed resources responsible for delivering system design, application development and/or will have input into the purchase and/or implementation of unique application solutions. Recognized as the expert in leading business unit driven development projects. • Recognized as the leader and role model/mentor in the business unit application development services group. Leads a team that built the operational system, procedures and database(s) using selected languages and tools. The team is responsible for the technical design and construction of the system. The team consists of designers and application programmers, librarians, quality assurance experts, workflow and documentation specialists. • People Management: Assign and review tasks, provide appropriate mentoring and coaching, manage performance feedback, training and professional development opportunities to help team members reach their full potential. Monitor employee performance to ensure the implementation of application deliverables and resulting client satisfaction. Encourage others to consider innovative alternatives and contribute to business strategy. • Ability to manage multiple development environments. • Provide input into development and implementation of business unit driven strategies. Partner with respective business unit leaders to understand the business demands, new programs and project initiatives. • Involved in the establishment of Service Level Agreements (SLA) for the System Development group. • Lead a team of application developers and support analysts who have input into the research and design and implement application solutions. • Focus on providing quality software development services for targeted client applications. • Apply industry and domain knowledge to develop new application recommendations.• Proven experience in leading mid-size (10-15) development groups. Understands the impact of the service provided both from an operational and financial perspective. • Ability to act independently and make decisions at the appropriate level for the role. • Collaborate with other technical areas to integrate across tiers, platforms and responsibilities. • Understand and comply to Project Life Cycle Methodology in all planning steps. • Support a global environment that may include multiple business units, locations and cost centers.• Develop and manage project plans inclusive of resources and budget. Experience Required:10 or more years relevant experience, including 4-6 years of management experience in leading multiple application development groups. Ideally has experience in 3 or more IT disciplines. Education:Required: BS/BA degree or equivalent higher education. Master's preferred.At Covance, we help make the miracles of medicine a reality.
