PowerBuilder Programmer

The PowerBuilder Programmer is an experienced person capable of analyzing and defining systems and software requirements, making architecture and design decisions, defining detailed software requirements, creating detailed software designs, implementing, coding, documenting and testing the software. This position is capable of performing independently or as part of an integrated team. The position may provide direction to the team or operate under leadership of a supervisor, team leader or other Senior Programmer/Analyst.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Define and understand requirements specifications for software functionality. Makes architecture and software design decisions based on knowledge of contemporary software tools, languages, and industry results. Translate software requirements into software designs. Implement code from the software design. Understand and implement programming language syntax appropriate to the project. Create code modules appropriate to a design. Modify software modules/programs created by others. Familiar with advanced functions of source editors, compilers, linkers, and tools. Capable of explaining concepts and teaching others. Capable of effectively using the latest software design environments. Can take the lead in the design of new modules/programs. Can take the lead or assist in the analysis of requirements and user interfaces. Define and design database applications. Maintain current knowledge about industry trends and initiatives. Familiar with computer and software industry standards. Capable of making informed cost and schedule project estimates. Take full ownership for setting and meeting project schedules and reports status. Requirements:

EDUCATION: Bachelor?s Degree with major in MIS or computer science or engineering or related field.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 3 years directly related experience in software development of commercial products.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 3 Years experience with PowerBuilder Working knowledge of building applications with ODBC and sql. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Proven ability to conceptualize and develop efficient software designs. Proven ability to work effectively in team environments.Proven ability to mentor/lead other developers. Ability to estimate time and effort needed to develop software. Ability to use computer-based project management tools.
