Role at SMCU

 

Resident expert on all aspects of Accounts Recovery operations, including but not limited to collections, charge off, recovery, bankruptcy, repossession, foreclosure, credit bureau disputes, debt protection, GAP claims, SCRA, estate accounts, garnishments/levies, forced placed insurance, and month end reports.

 

Essential Job Functions

 



·  Cross trained in all aspects of department operations with the ability to act as backup to any position within the department.

·  Act as point of contact for all AR staff in all operational matters.

·  Actively participate in the direction of department workflow and determination of work assignments.

·  Act as backup in absence of AR Manager.

·  Proactively contacts members with delinquent and/or at-risk loans to assure repayment.

·  Under guidance of the Accounts Recovery Manager, makes acceptable loan repayment arrangements with members with delinquent loans.

·  Serves as resource person for inquiries pertaining to delinquent loans.

·  Provides appropriate authorization to branch representatives regarding transactions on accounts with delinquent history on their loan payments.

·  Collects from members who have been delinquent less than 60 days on their loan payments.

·  Supports, promotes, and cross-sells credit union products and services.

·  Makes recommendations to the Accounts Recovery Manager regarding charge off and legal action.

·  Assists in the handling of bankruptcies, repossessions, and foreclosure as needed.

·  May represent the credit union in court.

·  Prepare month-end department reports to the Board of Directors.

·  Supports, promotes and recommends products and services.

·  Uphold SMCU collection policies, procedures and guidelines, as well as Federal and State laws and regulations.

·  Contributes to maintaining the department’s Internal Service Survey satisfaction ratings in accordance with credit union goals by providing high quality service based on our service standards.

·  Completes Product/Service Knowledge Assessment within 90 days of employment. with a score of at least 80%. (Note: This assessment may be taken as many times as needed to achieve this score).

·  Demonstrate effective service interactions using the Service Interaction and Handling Objectives Models.

 

Other duties may be assigned.

 

Working Conditions

 

·  Indirect exposure to robbery.

·  Work is performed in an office environment.  May be required to attend off-hours and/or off-site meetings.

·  Physical effort may be required to lift boxes up to 25 lbs.

 

Knowledge

 

·  Education or job knowledge equivalent to high school education.

·  Comprehensive knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations such as the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act and Reg Z, Bankruptcy laws, and SCRA.

·  Comprehensive knowledge of the credit union history and philosophy preferred.

·  Software: Microsoft Windows XP and Office.

·  Business English, composition, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and letter format.

·  Basic math calculations (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and percentages) and some knowledge of accounting principles.

 

Experience

 

·  Minimum 2 years credit and collections experience, or equivalent, in a credit union or other financial institution preferred.

·  Excellent telephone skills.

·  Accurate office skills:  ten-key, keyboarding, digital and hard copy filing.

·  Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.

·  Excellent organizational skills.

·  Ability to communicate with tact, discretion, and courtesy within and outside the organization.

·  Ability to operate office equipment.

·  Professional appearance and demeanor.

·  Excellent attendance.

·  Ability to handle stress in a high volume and fast-paced environment.

·  Ability to maintain utmost confidentiality.
