This position is accountable for designing and developing the next generation of statistical and financial models and other technology in support of Capital One’s Information Based Strategy (IBS). The role will consist of interacting effectively with senior statistical experts/researchers, analyzing aspects of IBS delivery, designing and developing software applications, specifying and/or designing technology platforms (e.g., grid computing, etc.), designing and developing databases, and otherwise assisting with the development and deployment of IBS-related technologies across Capital One.This role will interact with Senior Manager, Director, Senior Director, and executive (VP, MVP) associates in the Risk Management organization and in multiple lines of business on a regular basis. The candidate will report to the IT Director leading the CRM/ERM/ORM/Credit Review IT team. The candidate may work out of Capital One’s Richmond or McLean locations, though they will be expected to travel to Richmond for team and business partner meetings periodically as needed.QUALIFICATIONS Basic Qualifications: 3 years experience in IT software development This position requires significant depth and breadth of IT software development skills and experience including exceptional capability across a wide variety of programming languages (including C, C++, Java, SAS, Unix scripting languages, etc.), experience with developing massively parallel systems for both analysis and implementation, training and experience in application architecture, deep experience with statistical and/or financial modeling, strong analytic capabilities, and the ability to learn rapidly and operate in analytic and computing paradigms with which they are not currently familiar. The candidate must be adept at developing individual software components and with wrapping together multiple software components (developed in different languages) into coherent, maintainable, and high performance systems. The candidate must have both an enthusiasm for and proficiency with learning and experimenting with new concepts and technologies. The candidate must be experienced with developing both server side and GUI software, and with developing real-time and batch interfaces to other systems and software components. Maturity, professionalism, a sense of ownership and responsibility for total IT execution, and a strong personal commitment to achieving results are required due to the business criticality of technology developed for this area. A forward-leaning, results oriented, positive attitude is highly desired.RESPONSIBILITIES · The candidate must operate independently, taking ownership of all aspects of IT delivery in the development of next generation software and technology for IBS. This includes application architecture, software design, development, testing, etc. · The candidate will work closely with Consumer Credit Risk Management and Line of Business partners to understand their IBS business needs and to ensure that the right technology is developed by IT. · The candidate must ensure that all technology developed for CRM meets IT standards and complies with all applicable policies.· The candidate will partner with other members of the Risk Management IT team, with all the branches of the Enterprise Technology Organization (ETO), and with other IT groups as needed to implement and support solutions.SUCCESS MEASURES a) The ability to understand IBS business needs and translate them into technology solutions b) Making creative offers to business partners so that business needs are met c) Taking ownership/responsibility for IT delivery and working productively with internal IT groups to deliver value-add, cost-effective IT servicesd) Ability to resolve complex technical issues and comfort with working in white space situations e) Complying with Capital One IT standards and processes GENERAL INFORMATION Ongoing training in relevant technologies and job-specific skills is highly encouraged and expected. It is expected that the candidate will become expert in statistical modeling and in Capital One’s application of statistical modeling.
