JOB SUMMARY:Repair and maintain vehicles as necessary for continuous, safe performance and operating efficiency. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Repair and maintain electric, diesel and gasoline industrial trucks and trailers, following manuals, and using hand tools, power tools, and knowledge of electrical, power transmissions, brake and other automotive systems. Read job order and observe and listen to truck in operation to determine malfunction and to plan work procedures. May discuss with driver nature and extent of damage or malfunction. Lubricate moving parts and drive repaired truck to verify conformance to specifications.2. Raise vehicle, using hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle. Remove unit, such as engine, transmission, or differential, using wrenches and hoist. Disassemble unit and inspect parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and thickness gauges.3. Repair or replace parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings. Overhaul or replace carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps. Rewire or install new ignition systems, align front wheels, re-line and adjust brakes, repair or replace shock absorbers, change or recharge batteries, solder leaks in radiator, and replace transmission and other parts, using hand tools. Overhaul gas or diesel engines, using mechanic's tools, welding equipment, standard charts, and hoists.4. Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and make adjustments, using hand tools. Rewire lights and instrument panel. Replace and adjust headlights and install and repair accessories, such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers. 5. Mend damaged body and fenders by hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken parts. May fabricate special lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields or other devices according to blueprints or schematic drawings.This position will require availibility to work varying days, hours and shifts as needed.QUALIFICATIONS:MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:1. Thorough technical knowledge of all phases of truck and trailer repair.2. Training and education in diesel engines and related components.3.
