Wetland Specialist / Environmental Field Specialist / Wetland Scientist

 

This position will involve supervising, conducting wetland delineations, preparing wetland mitigation plans, conducting annual wetland mitigation monitoring, threatened and endangered plant surveys, and the research and preparation of environmental assessments and permitting documents

 

-Makes field visits to identify the presence/absence of wetlands using the three technical criteria: vegetation, hydrology and soils
-Documents findings of site visits and prepares a report to be submitted to the client
-Interfaces with clients to discuss findings of in-house research and site visit
-Submits report to Corps of Engineers and requests a Corps of Engineers Jurisdictional Determination

Organize equipment and logistical arrangements for complex field studies;
- Record data on field site forms or other forms and prepare reports for natural resource studies;
 Develop project-specific data forms and supervise field crews in accurate recording of field data;
- Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and scientific tools and equipment under arduous field conditions;
-Locate and use existing reports, scientific studies, data and other relevant documents for preparation of scientific background reviews;




Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in fish and wildlife science, biology, ecology or related field is preferred.  Four years applicable experience conducting wetland delineations and prior Section 404 permitting experience preferred. Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills required. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
