Lab Technician

Lab TechnicianDescription: This is a contract position that will perform laboratory experimental work under the instruction of Application Development Chemists and Engineers. Typical activities for this position would involve: -Operation of pilot scale polyurethane processing equipment. -Definition and implementation of equipment maintenance programs. -Designing equipment safe operating procedures. -Preparation of experimental polyurethane formulations. -Developing an understanding of the required polyurethane formulation for specific applications, polymer reaction conditions, safe handling and storage of chemicals involved. -Precise measurement and blending of materials.Conduct pilot scale foam experiments = 35% job duties,Machine preparation and maintenance = 35% job duties,Wet chemistry experiments = 20% job duties,Participation in lab safety programs = 10% job duties. Requirements: -Demonstrated knowledge of operating and maintaining mechanical processing equipment -Previous laboratory environment experience-Strong understanding of laboratory procedures (including management of lab notebooks)-Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously -Strong attention to detail and organization skills Preferred: -Demonstrated knowledge of polyurethane (in particular flexible slabstock) foam applications -Demonstrated knowledge of polyurethane processing equipment operation -At least a two-year degree in a scientific field with a minimum of 4 years of experience of laboratory related work -Knowledge of mechanics and familiarity with defining and implementing maintenance plans Physical Requirements: This position requires employees to work with chemicals (such as isocyanates) that are known to cause upper respiratory disorders if not handled properly, handling of heavy containers and other physical activities.
