Assistant Plant Engineer
Farmland Foods, a wholly owned subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, has openings for an Assistant Plant Engineer at our Crete, NE and Monmouth, IL facilities. This is a developmental role within the Plant Engineering organization and it is expected that successful candidates will be promoted to Plant Engineers as opportunities arise. We are looking for motivated individuals that are ready to grow within a solutions oriented organization.
Duties and responsibilities will include:Assist the Plant Engineer in leading the Maintenance department’s efforts in the development and implementation of maintenance systems associated with High Performing Manufacturing Organizations (Preventive/ Predictive Maintenance, TPM, etc.). Manage the maintenance staff through delegation, policy and procedure administration, assignment of work responsibilities, planning, organizing, directing and follow-up of the work assignment. Develop improved maintenance strategies, policies and procedures that align with company initiatives to improve utility management, maintenance repair budget, MRO inventory levels, maintenance spending, and cost containment programs.Ensure proper scheduling of resources to maximize amount of work completed while minimizing plant downtime. Participate in and drive long-term solution development. Under the direction of the Plant Engineer, deliver day-to-day support to all operating teams having issues with troubleshooting, problem analysis, equipment failures, etc. Participate in capital project development and management. Assist the Plant Engineer in management and scheduling of project elements to ensure minimal interruption to plant operations.Work with Corporate Manager of Maintenance to develop and/or maintain Key Performance Indicators for tracking and reporting the performance of the maintenance departmentChampion plant safety efforts within the department through administration and enforcement of company and plant policies/procedures. Facilitate employee training consistent with the objectives of Farmland Foods and in compliance with Federal and State agencies.
SKILLS REQUIRED:5 plus years experience in maintenance in a manufacturing environment, with increasing levels of supervisory responsibility. Previous experience in the meat industry and a union environment a plus.Possess strong critical thinking and problem solving skills. Possess excellent organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, interpersonal and adaptability skills. Possess thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and CMMS systems. Knowledge of SAP a plus.Ability to use equipment-monitoring technology, interpreting and communicating results to appropriate personnel. Possess a strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, refrigeration, hydraulic, and boiler systems. Must be able to lead resource planning and management efforts in a large manufacturing environment.Thorough knowledge of maintenance systems, workflow systems, PM / PdM program development and management, TPM tools, etc.Ability to handle multiple duties and projects simultaneously.Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization using written and verbal presentation skills.Strong team and personal leadership skills.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
B.S. in Engineering or equivalent work / education experience.
