That's why we're here. Structural Design Engineer 3/4 Position Description Develops, integrates and documents structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design. Develops, maintains and modifies structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle. Performs, integrates analytical and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals. Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort. Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements. Works under general direction. Able to build and manipulate data sets, (e.g., compare CATIA to measurement data, create stereo lithography files). Preferred -Extensive, specialized knowledge of aircraft structure, materials strengths and properties, design criteria, loading conditions, and processes (e.g. non destructive testing, corrosion prevention) [ + ] Engineering Processes Basic - Complete knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics). Complete knowledge of the interaction between departments/ disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business). Preferred -Ability to manipulate complex computer aided design tools and systems (e.g., computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), computer aided three dimensional interactive (CATIA), Mentor Graphics, Unigraphics). Able to build and manipulate complex data sets, (e.g., compare CATIA to measurement data, create stereo lithography files). [ + ] Structural Design Basic - Complete knowledge of structural design principles and practices from requirements generation to production and product support. Preferred -Extensive and specialized knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics). Extensive and specialized knowledge of the interaction between departments/ disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business). Education and/or Experience Level 3 - Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry and typically 5 to 8 years experience in an engineering classification or either a Master's degree with 3 to 6 years experience or a PhD degree with 0 to 3 years experience in an engineering classification. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Level 4 - Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry and typically 9 to 13 years experience in an engineering classification or either a Master's degree with 7 to 11 years experience or a PhD degree with 4 to 8 years experience in an engineering classification. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Other Job related information This is a HUB requisition that supports staffing requirements for several airplane programs in Washington State. Positions will be located in the Puget Sound area, WA. Desired experience:Large / primary structures; Aircraft fuselage / wing / empennage / frame;Shipbuilding / marine structures experience.
