ITT is seeking a Senior Active Imaging Scientist to join our Space Systems Division in northern Virginia.Our scientists work with remote sensing systems that have concentrations in hyperspectral/multispectral, thermal/thermodynamics, LADAR/LIDAR/SAR systems, capture, exploitation, image compression/motion and display. This exciting opportunity will work with active imaging concepts in the design of image formation and processing systems for LIDAR/ LADAR and SAR imagery. The position is analytical in nature and would seek innovative solutions in the areas of atmospherics, meteorology, spectroscopy, light scattering, image chain analysis and optimization, image simulation, enhancement, restoration, image quality metrics, and algorithm development. You will be responsible for developing procedures and standards for performing this work and managing large and small scale projects for both internal and external customers.The successful candidate will be working with remote sensing systems involving team oriented projects and daily customer interaction is required, including direct support to the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) to ensure product quality. General Duties include: - Leading and supporting small, medium, and large technical projects- Support the development and execution of project plans- Support development and documenting image quality assessment procedures and processes- Design/implementation of complex technical solutions- Support technical exchange meetings to address issues on standards, interfaces, systems, operations, and requirements that support the integration of image processing systems- Generating reports and briefings- Mentoring junior level engineers as needed. This scientist will focus on solving exploitation problems based upon sound science and tools. Duties will involve interacting with customers to develop and prototype new and innovative software tools to exploit LIDAR data, conduct verification and validation (V&V) of the tools, and assist in the transition of the tools to an operational environment. The scientist will also need to be a good communicator and leader who can advise/consult with other team members.Fulltime position at customer site and travel up to 25%. Requires B.S. degree, preferably in Engineering or in a technical area of science and research with 10-15 years work experience or a MS degree with 8+ years work experience, or a PhD with 5+ years work experience. Highly preferred is 5+ years experience with spectral sensor and exploitation systems. Experience in spectral exploitation in Department of Defense/Intelligence community programs is preferred. Desired programming skills may include Matlab, MathCAD, Java, C/C++, or IDL in a UNIX or Windows environment. We are seeking a motivated, team player, and a self-starter who is also a good communicator who can advise/consult with other team members on LIDAR related issues. Ideally successful applicants will have presented papers at classified Technical Forums.Knowledge and background in the following areas would be considered a plus:- Image compression algorithms - Image processing techniques exploitation display optimization- Imaging system performance prediction modeling and metrics- Advanced Geospatial Intelligence (AGI) - Imagery utility and psychophysical evaluations and modeling- Analysis, simulation, and modeling of Visible and IR electro-optical (EO) systems - Hyperspectral / Multipsectral / Thermal Infrared (IR)/Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data types and systems- Design of multi-variable experiments and related statistical data analysis.Ability and desire to lead a group and provide guidance to junior engineers is a positive and opportunity for growth in this position.
