Network/Telecom Engineer
Description:Performs a variety of project tasks applied to telecommunications technology problems. Candidate will work as part of a 24 x 7 Watch operations center and will be required to meet the needs of a 24-hour work center. Hours will be weekend days Fri, Sat, Sun (0530-1830). Conducts security assessments of telecommunications infrastructure. Analyzes information and communications infrastructure security requirements. Applies analytical and systematic approaches in the resolution of problems of IA/IP workflow, organization, and planning. Knowledge and experience with telephone, cellular and other communications networks is required. Candidates with a purely computer networking background will not be considered.Telecommunication Specialized: Five (5) years of experience with telephone central office switches (analog & digital), telephone signaling & transmission, satellite voice & data, multiplexing, fiber optics, media converters, dynamic bandwidth assignment, circuit switching and packet switching. Bachelor's degree. Specific experience performing the following functions is preferred: Supervising daily operations of public switch telephone networks and cellular switching systems Providing troubleshooting and fault resolution of switch and supporting equipment Conducting hardware, software upgrades, changes and new hardware installation. Performing routine and preventative maintenance including software database backups. Maintaining switch equipment as needed to ensure appropriate quality. Participating in the planning and conducting installations, testing and activating new or relocated switch and support equipment to meet customer requirements Organize and plan work activities for network additions and changes to minimize customer outages. Monitoring and maintaining system logs as required for performance evaluation and reports. Responding to system alarms to maintain system-switching operations. Providing support to NOC and field forces in evaluating and resolving service issues Providing expertise in SS7 and LAN operations and provide support in maintaining data operations. Monitoring and maintaining Inter-system traffic to and from other switches and/or cellular carriers. Coordinating installation, provisioning, testing and acceptance of DS3, DS1, DS0 circuits with various PSTN carriers. Capable of installing, wiring, and maintaining transmission equipment, (i.e. DSX panels, T-coder and mux shelves). Working to install, change, and maintain regional WAN networks.
