The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) is a private-sector, non-profit corporation, created by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, to oversee the auditors of public companies in order to protect the interests of investors and further the public interest in the preparation of informative, fair, and independent audit reports.
Job Description
The PCAOB has a full-time, regular position for a Paralegal in the Division of Enforcement and Investigations at its Washington, DC, headquarters office. This key role requires a proactive person that thrives in a multi-faceted professional environment.
Responsibilities
· Organizes large document productions and maintains documents through use of litigation support and document storage software, and manual storage systems;
· Searches litigation support systems for and retrieves and organizes documents in preparation for testimony and hearings;
· Digests testimony, and performs factual research in support of the attorneys’ and accountants’ preparation for the taking of testimony and/or disciplinary hearings;
· Researches and retrieves SEC filings and other public documents relating to audits of public companies;
· Verifies and checks legal and factual record citations and quotations in legal briefs and inter-departmental documents;
· Assists in preparing pleadings, accounting board demands, memoranda, briefs, correspondence and other litigation materials as necessary;
· Maintains high standards of confidentiality with respect to all matters and documents; and
· Ensures high level of accuracy in all details.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree required;
· Paralegal certificate and/or 1 to 2 years equivalent legal experience required;
· Strong technical skills with working knowledge of litigation support and document storage software programs;
· Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and Outlook applications;
· Excellent written and oral communication skills;
· Solid organization, time management, and prioritization skills;
· Ability to meet deadlines and make effective decisions;
· Self-starter with demonstrated ability to multi-task, juggle priorities, work effectively under pressure, work in a collaborative fashion and be flexible;
· Working knowledge of legal terminology; and
· Availability for occasional overtime and minimal travel.
