Assistant Controller

This is a small public software company which has been in business for over ten years.

Role & Responsibilities: Work closely with the Controller with the management of the Accounting department and monthly close process Draft GAAP policy memos for all new and unusual accounting transactions Responsible for the general ledger system and subsidiary ledgers Preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements and expense analysis. Preparation of reporting packages for management Ensure all accounts are reconciled and properly reflected in the financial statements Preparation of work-papers required for quarterly reviews and year-end audits Manage Customer Order Fulfillment Accounting: order entry, etc. Manage sales cycle to ensure appropriate controls and documentation are maintained for accuracy and correct financial reporting, including being a key reference for business personnel Maintain and reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts related to accounts receivable, inventory and deferred revenues Determine proper revenue recognition for all sales transactions Manage the Accounts Receivable collections process, establishing effective working relationships with our Customers payables’ staff and effectively utilizing our sales organization as collection resources Forecast Cash Balances Assist in the continued deployment of the newly-implemented Great Plains accounting system, including expanding current functionality and ease of use and heavily involved in planning and executing the deployment of additional modules (i.e., Business Portal, eConnect.) MBA, CPA/CMA preferred Thorough working understanding of revenue recognition (SOP 97-2) Strong knowledge of GAAP and SEC regulations Experience with general ledger, monthly financial close and production of financial statements. Excel modeling skills at the advanced level Working knowledge of Great Plains and FRX is desirable Experience in the software industry is highly desirable, as revenue recognition is an important aspect of the role Direct hire from a Big 4 firm with 5 years experience or less with 2 or more years industry experience or industry experience with a proven track record of promotion and added responsibility supervising a finance team in the software industry
